Members in the News October 30, 2006 - SF Chronicle - John Gumas Named Chairman of the Giants Community Fund Board July 2006 - Hellenic Journal Article Regarding Jim Lucas August 28, 2005 - NY Times Article Regarding Markos Kounalakis Oakland's Mayor Jerry Brown Makes Commissioner Appointment December 1, 2005 Mayor Jerry Brown appointed businessman Michael Meniktas as commissioner to the City of Oakland's Workforce Investment Board last week. The Workforce Investment Board is governed primarily by a federal statute, the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 and is the primary source of most of the City's annual job training funds. The Workforce Investment Board is responsible for policymaking and oversight of Oakland's workforce development system with a current annual budget of over $10 million. Michael is a financial planner and investment advisor with Merrill Lynch in Oakland. He is founding President of the Bay Area Greek American Business Association and he resides in San Francisco. Gina Papan Elected to Millbrae City Council November 2005 On November 8, 2005, Gina was elected City Councilwoman to the Millbrae City Council. Gina was raised in Millbrae and went to local public schools. Gina has a B.A. in Business Economics from U.C. Santa Barbara, a J.D. from U.O.P. - McGeorge School of Law and she recently completed the Kennedy School of Government's Senior Executives in State and Local Government program. Gina is a founding Board Member of BAGABA. The Association is proud of Gina and we congratulate her success and wish her tremendous luck in serving the residents of Millbrae. San Francisco Chronicle (excerpt), July 14, 2005 Newsom Appoints to the City Commission San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom announced Wednesday his new pick to join a City commission. Victor Makras, president of Makras Real Estate, will serve on the Fire Commission. He assumes the post in the wake of the may resignation of a commissioner who raised concerns that Newsom and Fire Department leaders rushed through a plan to reconfigure the way the city responds to emergency medical service calls. Makras also has served on the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission and the Police Commission. |
